A story of an invisible girl

Nights like this she walked straight past him with disappointment written all over her face, closing their bedroom door behind her. She came over to her bed of peace and thought of how many times she asked him to do that one thing for her today, and yet he found everything else to put in front of her. He continued on with his night, sat down and relaxed in the living room not even noticing he let her down. She laid there, and wondered how many let downs will it take for her to accept he doesn’t notice her anymore. How many eye rolls, silent treatments, and “thanks for not being a man of your word” conversations will it take for him to notice, he has not invested an equal effort into this relationship. He no longer had the desire to put in the time to see her smile. Countless times, and frowns, pushed her to walk to the edge and finally jump. She cheated and prepared to leave him because that other guy noticed her when her man at home made her invisible. Now her man at home is questioning her and calling her shady when she has been his shadow for 365 days and nights. Disappointment didn’t look good on her, and she grew tired of wearing it. She was ready to feel good again, step out of her shadow and feel alive. One day she came home from work, walked into their room, closed the bedroom door behind her, and laid on to her bed that always gave her the safe haven she needed. The door suddenly opened unexpectedly. It was him, the man she once loved; he noticed her glow. It had been a long time since he was the invisible one. She was no longer searching for him to notice her, and he noticed his shadow was no longer behind him.  “Is there something wrong?” He asked her. She looked straight into his eyes thinking about all the times she told him there was something wrong, and he shrugged it off. “No” she said easy and softly as she looked back down into her phone unbothered. At this moment he looked at her and realized he might be losing her, so he reacted. “I was thinking we should get out of the house and do something today.” He waited for her to look up and respond. She looked over and saw him attempting to notice her after she already walked out on this relationship. “ I made plans later, maybe some other time” she knew she was packing her things tonight and not coming back she just hadn’t decided if she was going to sit him down or leave him a letter. She didn’t feel like she owed him a sit down, but something deep inside her still loved the man he used to be. She wore her happiness so well he saw it too. It was too late to fix it; she was already gone. He didn’t want her to leave but he couldn’t deny how unthoughtful he had been toward her. Instead of fighting for her like she secretly hoped for, he slowly got up walked out of the room and closed the door behind him. He knew he was going to regret this forever, but he was too selfish to want to do better. She looked at the door and let the last tear fall down over this man that was not willing to fight for her. She wrote a letter and packed her things later that night and signed it with love, no longer your shadow.
